Pin header is a pin through hole device. And it is a form of electrical connector. It consists of one or more rows. The distance between two pins is commonly referred as pitch. Surface-mounted technology versions also exist.

Pin header connector is thus male connector, female connector is normally called female header or header connector. They are mostly used inside equipment, rather than being used as a connector on the outside of the device.

Pin headers also comprise straight and right-angle pins. Generally, one side is a series of pins which are soldered to a PCB, and they can either be at a right-angle to the PCB surface, this is called straight pin. If parallel to the board's surface it is called right-angle pin.
